Where should I take my branding photos?

That is a great and super important question! Why? Because the location and backdrop of your images is a major element of illustrating the vibe of your brand and adding depth to your photos. And if those two things don’t coordinate, your brand photos will end up looking disjointed and off.

Since it’s so important (but can be so overwhelming) to choose the perfect spot, I’ve compiled a list of 5 location options for your personal branding session to get your brain going and your creative juices flowing.

1. Your Home

First off, maybe your home isn’t even close to projecting the same style as your brand. But maybe it is! And if you have plenty of natural light in your home, even better.

There are tons of advantages to taking branding photos in your own home. You don’t have to pack up and travel anywhere. You are in your element and that will help you feel more relaxed. You don’t have to pay to rent a space. Plus it gives you really good motivation to get that spring cleaning done! ;)

Having your branding session in your home is a really great option.

2. Friend/Family Member's Home

Closely related to option 1, maybe you know someone with an awesome house that would be perfect for your photos! You get the same advantages as doing them at home, except you will have to pack up and travel to the location.

3. Rented Studio Space

This is another great option for taking branding photos. Most studios have a nice selection of furniture and props to mimic lifestyle photos and office settings. Plus you know you’ll have good light and a clean space. The variety of images you can get will be slightly less but if your image needs are specific or you just need a few updated ones, a studio space is a great choice.

4. Rented Home

So I’m talking about renting a home like you would for vacation, but for your photo session instead!

You could check Airbnb and Vrbo. There's also Peerspace which has spaces that are catered to more professional needs like a photo shoot. You can search by area and dates on their website just like when you book a vacation rental.

This option is nice because you have full control over which place you pick to get the exact brand aesthetic you need.

5. Outside or On-location

This is another good option to consider especially for certain types of businesses. For instance, a personal trainer may want photos of them exercising outside. Or an aesthetician may need to have photos of them in action that are taken at their actual workspace. Or maybe you’re just wanting some different looks for headshots and having a city skyline behind you would fit your brand.

The best part about this option is you have so much variety to pick from. The only disadvantage is you may need to use some of your shoot time to travel between spots. And if you are outside, you are subject to the elements.

To get scroll-stopping branding photos, you need to put thought and effort into planning your session. Location choice is a major “layer” in your photos that needs to make sense with your brand image.

But don’t get overwhelmed! While you should have a good grasp on what your visual brand image is, it’s not a requirement that you have a location picked before you reach out to me about a branding session. And I will totally help you narrow down what is the best option for your specific needs.
