Senior Pictures: Should Guys Take Them Too?
Do guys even do senior pictures?
I know what you’re thinking. Only girls take senior pictures. Why should guys bother to take them? I HATE having my picture taken. I don’t think most boys take senior photos so I’m not going to either.
Most guys are not “into” pro photo sessions where they pose in front of the camera. A lot of guys don’t like having their picture taken. Ever. I get it!
But if you’re wondering, do guys do senior pictures? I’m here to tell you, yes they do. And yes, you should too. Don’t believe me? Here are six reasons why boys should have senior photos taken. 👇👇👇
Boy Senior Photos Don't Have to Be a Big Production
First of all, taking senior pictures as a guy doesn’t mean you have to do a 2 hour shoot and change your outfit 4 times. Although there’s nothing wrong with that. Don't worry, most photographers offer a shorter, simpler option for boy sessions. You can get in, get out and get on with your life.
Senior Year is a Big Deal for Guys Too
It’s not every year you graduate from high school. Not to be dramatic but it’s literally a once in a lifetime thing. It marks the end of a special era and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life. Having professional photos taken at this time is a great way to remember how you felt and document this significant moment in your life. I know it may not seem like THAT big of a deal right now. But trust me. In 10-20 years you will look back at them and be happy you did it.
Your Mom Wants Photos of Her Senior Boy
Do it for your mom, ok? Even if you couldn’t care less to have senior pictures taken, I promise you it will mean so much to your family. Especially your mom! She is watching her baby boy grow up into a young man and she wants some nice photos to cherish that special moment, mmm k? You will have plenty of family and friends who would appreciate having one of your senior pictures as a keepsake.
Celebrate your Senior Year
It gives you a chance to celebrate. Listen, you’ve probably been busting your tail for the last 4 years. You’ve put in the work academically, in extracurriculars and in personal growth. Why not take a minute to give yourself a little pat on the back? A senior photo session helps you do that. Doing things like gathering your awards, sports gear, etc. to add to your photos can help you stop and appreciate how much you’ve accomplished. Plus a senior session is all about YOU. Enjoy getting some attention for all your hard work. You earned it!
Professional Photos Boost Your Confidence
It will boost your confidence. Yes, I’m serious. (Don’t worry, I won’t tell your guy friends) A professional photo shoot gives you an opportunity to express yourself and try new things. You may feel a little self-conscious at first. But a professional photographer knows how to help you relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. This naturally helps you to feel more confidence. You may even begin to see yourself in a different light. And I think you’ll agree that transitioning from high school to the next phase of life is a REALLY good time to boost that confidence.
Prepare for Future Photo Shoots
Spoiler alert: you think senior pictures are the first and only time you’ll have to be in front of a camera? Not likely. So you might as well get used to them now. Ever plan to get married? Hello engagement and wedding photos! You know what will make your future girl even happier? Not being the cranky husband in family photos. Also, no matter what occupation you plan to have, you will likely need at least a professional headshot, if not more. Learning to be at ease in front of the camera is actually a useful life skill. Senior photos give you a chance to experience that.
Bonus reason: You can use your senior pictures right away for resumes, social media profiles or college applications.
TL;DR Senior photo sessions are a unique and fun experience for girls and guys. They give you a chance to express yourself creatively and appreciate your individuality. Hiring a professional photographer to take senior pictures provides you with a perfect chance to capture memories, boost your confidence and celebrate your achievements. And make your mom really happy (which I probably should have said first.) 😉
