OKC-based Paycom continues expansion

OKC-based Paycom continues expansion

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Feb 25, 2009 by Kelley Chambers

Chad Richison expects to stay plenty busy in 2009. While layoffs and bankruptcies abound, Richison said he will increase his work force by nearly 20 percent before the first leaves turn orange in autumn.

His Oklahoma City-based payroll company, Paycom, has expanded into 12 markets and Richison has his eye on taking the 10-year-old company public – eventually.

Paycom offers Web-based payroll and human resource services. The company has offices in Dallas, Denver and Chicago, and has added Tampa, Fla.; Austin, Texas; Houston; Charlotte, N.C.; and Phoenix. Richison said the company had some business in those areas and opened offices with its existing local managers.

There are about 130 Paycom employees in Oklahoma City and 250 nationwide. Richison said by the end of the summer he plans to have 150 Oklahoma City employees and 300 company-wide.

“We’ve been growing at a pretty steady pace for three or four years,” he said.

Roy Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, said many companies are weathering the storm and even prospering in Oklahoma City where new jobs are still being added.

“We find a number of companies here that are adding 10, 100 or a couple of hundred,” he said.

Williams said some companies with a national presence, like Paycom, are also doing well.

“It’s a reflection of some of the positive economic activity here but sometimes it’s a reflection of their national business,” he said.

In 2009 Williams said large companies in Oklahoma City may add a few jobs, but he expects to see growth at smaller companies like Richison’s.

Richison said Paycom adds 300 to 400 new accounts each month, primarily from small to medium-sized companies with anywhere from 30 to about 4,000 employees.

But much of the new business is not from companies new to outsourcing their payroll. Richison said his staff has mostly lured business from away competitors, including industry giant Automatic Data Processing Inc.

In 2007 Richison sold a majority share of the privately held company to private equity investment firm Carson, Anderson & Stowe. That left Paycom debt-free. Richison wants to take the company public, but he is in no hurry.

“We’re obviously going to go public in a time that makes sense for us to do so,” he said

A fundamental way to get ahead

A fundamental way to get ahead in the job search is to understand an employer?s perspective because their point of view is their truth, and their truth dictates how they will react. It will serve you well to understand what a bad hire costs a company.

Three Biggest Concerns of the Hiring Manager

1. We all have been there, working in a department where there is an unproductive employee who insists on making waves; someone who has their own agenda and refuses to play by the rules. Perhaps you are searching for a job right now because of unbearable circumstances in your workplace. This is precisely what hiring managers are afraid of: losing good workers because of the actions of a bad employee. That cost is immeasurable.

2. A hiring manager puts his or her reputation on the line when choosing to endorse a candidate. And that is exactly what a hiring manager is doing when submitting a name for consideration. If they make a bad hiring decision, their ability to make sound decisions is questioned.

Apart from its

Apart from its wider use in storing large amounts of high-quality data, it also serves as a medium for storing data for long-term use. It is perhaps this need that drives people to transfer the contents from a fragile VHS tape to DVDs. DVDs are optical storage media with a huge capacity. This means that the contents from several VHS tapes can be transferred effectively inside a single DVD, thereby reducing clutter and confusion.

Transferring the contents of a VHS cassette to DVD, usually a movie, is fairly easy. The analog VHS movie is first transferred to the computer.

Journal, The – Deep sea fishing in Cancun paradise

Deep sea fishing in Cancun paradise

Topeka Capital-Journal, The, Jun 25, 2010

Sandra and I received an invitation to a destination wedding at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico, on June 12. Her great- nephew, Karl Gehring, was marrying Cara Morgan of Houston. They met while attending KU.

As long as I was in the Caribbean Sea area of Cancun, I thought I might as well try deep sea fishing.

The hotel made arrangements for me at Water Kingdom, a large complex of fishing boats and jet skis. They also book scuba diving and snorkeling around the beautiful reefs in the area.

Sandra loves boating so she went along to take photos of the catch. We had a short night as the wedding was Saturday evening on the beach then dinner and dancing. Five o’clock Sunday morning came very early with a wakeup call so we could meet the shuttle to take us to the boat. The cost for me to fish and Sandra to go along was $205 for a six-hour fishing trip. I did not measure the cost in fish inches!

Our boat was the AquaWorld with Captain Louie and deck hand Hector doing the rigging of the lines. Hector worked very hard and fast as we set out to the fishing area.

Also on board were Doug, a young man from Australia, a newly wed couple, Bobby and Lori, from Texas and a father and son, Eric and Ethan Relph from Garden City. Eric attended Topeka West one year before moving to Garden City.

Captain Louie took us about 20 to 25 miles out. The roll was not rough; they said it was about two foot waves but very hot under the Caribbean sun. Hector worked on the lines, baiting each with a small fish and setting the downriggers on each side of the boat as well as three lines along the back of the boat.

Ethan, 9, hooked the first fish — a 90-inch bluefin sailfish that his dad helped him land. When Hector grabbed the fish and hauled it in it started flopping around the deck. Ethan’s eyes got big and he jumped as far away as he could from the fish. Then he cautiously stood by the fish to have his photo taken.

I caught the second fish, a nice sized bonito. By the time I got it in the boat, I was over-heated and just could not cool down and I was seasick the rest of the trip. A photo op for Sandra.

Bobby caught two small bonitos that were used for bait and Lori caught a nice bonito on Bobby’s bait. Eric caught a good sized bonito and Doug caught a 60-inch barracuda. Hector did not fool around with the barracuda and quickly shoved it in the live well. He did not want the very sharp teeth near anyone. No photo op for Sandra.

The total catch was 10 fish

Viva Home to be KL's new retail landmark

Viva Home to be KL’s new retail landmark

THE four-storey Viva Home retail mall at Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur, is set to change Cheras’ landscape and spur new developments as well as improve the experience of shopping for your home.

Viva Home is the first of its kind retail mall in Malaysia. It is a one-stop centre for home products like furniture, furnishing, home decoration and home improvement services.

The 660,000-sq-ft mall, developed by Viva Mall Sdn Bhd, a unit of Kha Seng Corp Group, is opening by the end of this year.

Besides shops catering to every inch of the home, the mall will also offer lifestyle and entertainment elements, housing anchor tenants like MBO Cinemas with nine screens and ICT Gadgets, an information and communication technology section selling computers, accessories, handheld devices and telecommunications equipment.

There will be a range of food and beverage outlets, banks, a hypermarket and an exhibition hall, showcasing the latest home and home-related products and services.

Viva Home will have lot sizes ranging from 300 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft, while anchors will have space of up to 15,000 sq ft.

All the lots are for lease, and Viva Home is currently undergoing its leasing campaign.

“As a developer, we tend to look at long-term investment … so we will retain the lots for recurring income and manage the retail mix,” Viva Mall chief executive officer Yee Ia Howe said in an interview with Business Times.

The lots will be leased from RM4 per sq ft, depending on size and location, which is the current market price, Yee said.

Viva Home is part of a RM280 million two-phase redevelopment of Plaza Uncang Emas (UE3), which Kha Seng bought last year for some RM100 million.

The old mall at UE3 is being refurbished and renamed Viva Home. The phase two of the development will boast a 260-room business- class hotel, which will sit atop the mall.

Yee said work on the hotel will start by the end of this year.

You may have seen these new

You may have seen these new shaped work vans, Fed Ex has bought quite a few. Freightliner a DaimlerChrysler company is going after the already intense 450,000-unit a year Full Size Work Van Market. They will be competing with other market share winners like Ford, GM and Dodge their own van network.

They plan on setting up 150-160 dealers by years end and they are already well on their way of reaching and implementing that lofty strategic sales goal. Perhaps you may wish to buy a few as units for your small or medium sized business? The van claims oil changes every 10,000 miles and over 22 mpg with a GVW of over 15,000 lbs. Very impressive economy and excellent cost savings on preventative maintenance costs.

We will see if Freightliner can get itself out of the gutter as they have had layoffs and financial performance issues during the last recession with all the trade in short term leases. There are still some 42,000 used trucks rusting away in hibernation like many of the old airliners lined up in the desert. I talked to a route driver who drives a Freightliner Sprinter and he says; ?the gas mileage is cool, awesome.? He also said; ?when you get on the pedal it really accelerates good,? which makes him happy when he needs to get over a lane in heavy traffic.

After undergoing surgery in the lower back, patients felt more comfort using adjustable beds compared to flat mattresses.
While a patient may not be sure of the benefits from an adjustable bed or is unsure of purchasing a new bed, a possible option is by propping up the upper body by using pillows beneath the knees.

Patient?s preference should determine the choice of bed and mattress

Sleeping comfort is still the determining factor in the choice of bed or mattress. No particular type of mattress or bed is guaranteed to work for all patients, and no medical studies proves that adjustable beds are preferable. Whatever bed or mattress gives sleep comfort without extra pain is deemed as the best option.

Sleeping or lying down is the only time in which complete relaxation is experienced by the muscles, ligaments and the spine. A person suffering from a back injury needs to have a good sleep in order to help in the healing process.
